Craft Time: Felt Food!

I've been working on these crafts for a little girl I know. She has a set of pretend pots and pans and I thought it would be fun to make some pretend food to go with them. I found some scraps of felt and came up with a pretty good menu!

First I made a slice of cheese pizza! I cut out three triangles - one for the dough, one for sauce, and one for the cheese. I made the dough triangle big enough that it could fold over the other two to form the crust. Then I sewed it all together and trimmed the edges of the crust.

The fried egg is pretty simple too. A small yellow circle for the yolk and two bigger white circles. I sewed the yolk onto the first white circle then sewed the two whites together (so the yellow stitches don't show on the back).

The blueberry pancakes have 10 parts: 3 pancakes, 5 blueberries, one square of butter and one curvy yellow piece of melted butter. First, I sewed the blueberries on a pancake. Next came the melted butter then the un-melted butter on top of the blueberries. Then I stacked the pancakes and sewed around the edge!

After that things got much more complicated (but oh so fun!). I didn't use any patterns and my dimensions were guided by the size of the pretend pots and pans.

To make your own you need:

- pieces of felt in various colors
- scissors
- sewing needle
- thread that (almost) matches your felt

Clockwise from top left - Peas in the pod, Cheese Pizza and Fried Egg, Corn on the Cob, Blueberry Pancake with Butter, and an Apple Slice with the parts of a Grilled Cheese and Tomato Sandwich!
